The 18-month period is counted from the date you receive your first ticket to the date you receive the second ticket, not from the date you complete traffic school. WILL COMPLETING THIS COURSE DISMISS MY CITATION FROM MY DRIVING RECORD?
On July 1, 2011, the DMV changed the way it lists traffic offenses on the driver record. DMV now requires that all traffic offenses be recorded as “convictions.” HOWEVER, drivers who attend a traffic violator school such as BEST TRAFFIC SCHOOL.COM will have their first conviction MASKED on their driving record. As long as you have not attended traffic school within 18 months of your last citation, this course will satisfy your traffic school requirement – the exact same result as the previous “dismissals.” **A conviction will not be masked if there is a prior conviction within the previous 18 months, the conviction is a major 2-point violation (DUI or Reckless Driving), or the driver holds a commercial driver license or was operating a commercial vehicle at the time of the violation.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?
BEST TRAFFIC SCHOOL.COM’s course is self-paced. The time it takes to complete the course will vary from student to student. The course is an 8-hour equivalent – meaning we cover the same amount of material covered in an 8-hour classroom course. However, unlike a classroom, you may progress through the course at your own pace. There are no timers. You may also log in and out of the course as often as you care to. Your progress will always be saved and you will be returned to where you left off every time you RE-ENTER the course. It is your responsibility to complete the traffic school course ON or BEFORE your court-assigned due date.

AM I REQUIRED TO APPEAR BEFORE A NOTARY OR HAVE MY I.D. VERIFIED IN PERSON BEFORE TAKING MY FINAL QUIZ?
You are not required to have your identity verified in person. The ENTIRE tcourse can be completed from the comfort of your computer. However, there are several steps taken to ensure the violator is the actual person taking the course. Students are required to click their agreement to a PENALTY OF PERJURY statement, punishable by law, agreeing that only the person who received the citation will be completing the course. Additionally, students must provide answers to authentication questions during enrollment that will be presented throughout the course. The student must correctly match their answers with the answers they provide during enrollment in order to proceed to the quizzes.

WHAT IS A CITATION NUMBER?
A Citation Number is a number the court assigns to you and your violation. It may also be called a "Case Number" or a "Docket Number" and can usually be found on the top right corner of your court papers. The DMV will accept any of these numbers on your traffic school certificate and cross-reference with your driver’s license number.

IF MY DUE DATE FOR COMPLETING TRAFFIC SCHOOL HAS PASSED, CAN I GET AN EXTENSION?
Every court has its own policies for granting extensions. Some will, some won't. Contact the traffic clerk of your court to find out if they grant extensions. Some courts will allow extension requests online. Others allow for extensions over the phone or in person. Some courts may charge a fee for the extension. In any case, it is definitely worth pursuing the extension versus allowing the conviction to negatively affect your driving record.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE TIME TO FULFILL MY TRAFFIC SCHOOL REQUIREMENT?
If you feel you need more time to complete your traffic school requirement, you may contact your Court and request an extension. Most courts will grant a one-time extension if you request one. IF I HOLD A COMMERCIAL LICENSE, AM I ELIGIBLE FOR TRAFFIC SCHOOL?
YES. New legislation now allows drivers who hold a commercial license to take traffic school IF THEY WERE DRIVING A NON-COMMERCIAL VEHICLE AT THE TIME THEY RECEIVED THEIR CITATION. If you have a commercial license and were not driving a commercial vehicle at the time you were ticketed, then you ARE eligibile for traffic school for the purposes of preventing a point on your record. HOWEVER, unlike drivers with a standard Class C license, the conviction will be disclosed to insurers for underwriting purposes. Preventing a point on your record is still significant and most commercial license holders opt for traffic school for this reason.
